Little House

We read several of the Little House series last year.  My daughter loved them.  She was studying colonial times in school, so this helped.  I must admit, they were a difficult read aloud.  There is not much dialogue, and lots of description.  I’m sure my daughter could read it on her own, but we chose to read it aloud together.  This year, my daughter has chosen Laura Ingalls Wilder to do a biography.  She is doing the research at school and needs to prepare a report to be given at the “Living Biography” party she will have in her classroom.  She has to dress like Laura Ingalls Wilder.  This past weekend, I asked her which color bows Laura wore in her braids. There was a part in one of the books we read where Ma mixed up the bows in the girls hair when getting ready for church.  My daughter knew exactly what I was talking about, she even knew which Little House book it was from.  I went to the library today and got out On the Banks of Plum Creek.  When I picked her up, she found the bow part within minutes.  Reading aloud pays off!

If you choose to read these,  I would spread them out.  Read a short, fun book in between.   The Little House books are well worth the read, truly classics!
