Judy Moody by Megan McDonald, illustrated by Peter H. Reynolds
The rule in our house is you have to read the book BEFORE you see the movie. It has been my experience that the book is always better than the movie. The only exception would be Charlotte’s Web (the old one with Debbie Reynolds and Paul Lynde) – it was exactly the same as the book!
So, Since Judy Moody and the Not Bummer Summer is coming out June 10th, I thought it would be a good idea to tell you about Judy Moody BEFORE the movie comes out.
I started reading Judy Moody to my daughter about 3 years ago. She loved them. Who wouldn’t? Judy is funny, smart, a typical 3rd grader, and not too sweet. She has a brother named Stink, and she and her friends are members of the TPC -(you’re going to have to read it to find out what it is!) With my daughter being such a princess it was good for her to see/experience a little bit of a tomboy, but mostly the expereinces of an older child. The stories have facts in them, depending on what Judy is up to, usually a school project. There are lots of rhymes (which make it a good read aloud for the younger children, it will help to work on their phonemic awareness).
My daughter started reading these on her own last year. She, hasnt gotten through all of them, but she has loved each one that she has read. There is an excellent website (http://www.judymoody.com/)
Go get a Judy Moody book and read it BEFORE you go to the movies, have your child read it, too. See which one you like better, and let us know. We’ll let you know our thoughts, too.
