Guys Read

I have been very lax in my entries since September.  So much has happened in our crazy life.  And, fall always seems to be such a crazy time for our family!  And, throw in a major storm that shuts down the entire state and it doesn’t make it easy to keep on schedule.  However, it does make it easy to go to the library.

I found http://www.guysread.com/ a few months ago.  Jon Scieszka is a former teacher and a wonderful author (one of my favorites is The True Story of the Three Little Pigs by A. Wolf).  He began his website “to encourage a passion for reading among young boys, with the philosophy that boys love to read most when they are reading things they love.”  The website is great.  Books for all ages,  projects, book of the month, a blog.  To be honest, I wish I had the time to make my website/blog like http://www.guysread.com/.  Someday . . .

So, I found Thriller, Guys Read, Vol. 2, in the new books section in our library.  It is a collection of short stories, that, yes, you guessed it, are thrillers.  The book is edited by Jon Scieszka.  Some of the stories captured my attention a little better than others. But, that is the beauty of a collection of short stories, there are many to choose from.  I would say this may be for the older boys – maybe 6th or 7th grade and up, given some of the subject matter.  But, you could choose some to read to your younger children.

Volume 1 of the Guys Read books is Funny Business.  I didn’t get a chance to read it, but I’m sure it does not dissappoint.
