The Moon Over High Street

The Moon Over High StreetThe Moon Over High Street by Natalie Babbit

I saw this book recommended somewhere, so when I saw it in the new book section at the library, I immediately picked it up.  It was a very quick, enjoyable read.

Joe Casimir is a thirteen year old boy who lives with his grandmother.  They are planning a trip to Midville to visit his Aunt Myra, whom he does not know.  His grandmother falls, so he has to go alone, until she can make it down herself.  While he is in this  strange town, with all new people in his life, it is as though he has come home.  Mr. Boulderwall, a wealthy man, who lives on High Street, takes a liking to Joe.  For being only thirteen, Joe has a good head on his shoulders, and finally makes his feelings and dreams known.  Joe realizes at a young age, what people can be like – those that want something from you or for you.  The characters are well written, the story is not far-fetched, it is a look at real life.

Natalie Babbit also wrote Tuck, Everlasting.  I read it in graduate school.  I will have to see if I can find it in one of my boxes.  I loved it.

Happy Reading!
