The Willoughbys
Nefariously Written & Ignominiously Illustrated by Lois Lowry
Let me begin by saying sarcasm runs rampant through this house. I loved this book, my daughter loved it, and my son loved it. The characters were fun, the story was far-fetched, and it all came full circle. It was a pleasure to read. I read it in about a day – probably could have done it in one sitting, but having to be a parent really gets in the way (sarcasm). Every night my daughter and I read a chapter, she wanted to read more. When we finished, she took it to read on her own – she finished it in 2 days, and she has recommended it to her friends.
The four Willoughby children (Tim, twins Barbnaby A and Barnaby B and Jane) have been abandoned by their parents and left with a brand new Nanny. They try to keep things going in their old fashioned world, only to have their house sold, and forced to live with a stranger. It is a very fun read.
Lois Lowry has written lots of books, both serious and silly. She is a true talent. She also has a series, Anastasia Krupnik. We read one aloud a few years ago, and really enjoyed it. I think its time for my daughter to get into that series!
Happy Reading!
