Home for Christmas by Jan Brett
It seems that no Christmas can come and go without a new Jan Brett book. And, thanks to my mom, we always have one! My mother taught first grade for 30 years, and her favorite author/illustrator is Jan Brett. So, I would like to say we are overrun by Jan Brett books – but that sounds negative. My children are very lucky to have so many Jan Brett books, whether its Christmas or not. Home for Christmas does not disappoint.
Rollo was a wild troll who still had his tail (you had to do your chores and be kind to others to lose your tail), but Rollo didn’t care. He went off on an adventure and left his family to do all the work around the farm. He is a typical little boy, just wanting to play and explore. And, all his adventures are ‘easy’ – when they become difficult, he moves on to the next one – until he finally realizes where the best adventure is!
As with all Jan Brett books, the illustrations are stupendous! My children love looking at all the details, never wanting to miss one. But, every time we read it, a new detail emerges. It is so fun to read and study her books.
My husband and I were once looking for a house in her town, and I asked the realtor to show me where she lived. She drove us by her house. It was a typical New England home, except for the front door. It had been carved by her – it was breathtaking! We have also met Jan Brett at numerous book signing. She is amazing.
